Gratitude – The Key to Unlocking an Extraordinary Life
Want to unlock an extraordinary life? Gratitude is THE key. Nothing, and I mean, nothing, opens our hearts, our minds, our souls quite like gratitude. It shifts our thinking to higher levels, allows us to see beauty and grace and love in places we’d never expect. It is the only path to an extraordinary life.
This quote hits deep with me. We have so, so much for which to be thankful. Life itself, grace, love, beauty, forgiveness, strength, compassion, food, water, shelter, I could go on and on. And that’s why gratitude is THE key factor in beginning this journey. Without it, nothing else will make sense, and something will ALWAYS be missing.

In order to move past where we are today, we need to acknowledge all we have today. A gratitude journal records what Melody Beattie refers to as “the fullness of life”. It is a written account of how much we’ve already been given. When we connect with what we have, we become open to receiving even more. It is the basis for Cultivating Extraordinary, for living in “Simple Abundance” the phrase coined by Sarah Ban Breathnach, and author of the book by the same name.
Gratitude opens our hearts, our minds, our souls, in ways that nothing else can. We must begin with the end in mind; begin with gratitude. Gratitude awakens your heart to all you already have. It opens your eyes to the blessings already staring back at you.
Now, this isn’t some prosperity gospel. Say thank you and get more. Nope. That’s not the angle. It’s truly connecting what we have to a higher power that wants to bless us. We don’t say thank you so we can be greedy for more. We say thank you because we know without God and each other, we have nothing. None of it matters. Gratitude connects us to our Creator, ourselves, and each other.
day by day
Some days, my gratitude journal flows like free wine. Other days, I eek out the basics in the midst of heartache and grief. The point is to make this a daily habit. A daily connection. A daily reminder.
This year I’m choosing to record my gratitude both in a daily journal (get your FREE Gratitude Journal by signing up below) and daily on my instagram stories, using the hashtag, #dailygratitude. I’d love for you to join me, use the hashtag, and tag me (@cultivateextraordinary) in your posts or stories.
