Scarcity to Abundance: The Mindset Shift for Authentic Success
In order to cultivate an extraordinary life, and achieve authentic success, we must move our mindset from scarcity to abundance. It’s time to transform those feelings of doubt, discouragement and disappointment, into belief, prosperity and contentment.
worry steals your joy
Worry steals the joy of living. It follows you around like a dark cloud or shadow, blocking the light and power of Love in your life. At the root of worry is comparison.
We worry we’re not good enough or smart enough or pretty enough or rich enough. Perhaps we worry we don’t have as much as someone else, be it time or talent, resources or attention. We waste days, weeks, months, and sometimes years wishing we had more. Instead, when we shift our focus from our perceived lack to how much we have been given, from scarcity to abundance, we discover abundance is our spiritual birthright.
voice of truth
Jesus explains this when He shares the parable of the shepherd, He cautions us to listen for His voice of Truth versus listening to the sounds of “sheep rustlers” (worry, doubt, fear) because they are “up to no good” (John 10:8 The Message). Then He encourages us with this truth:
Scarcity is a lie. If we are constantly looking for “more”, we miss the gifts we already have. The people, the experiences, the opportunities. Yes, we need to be on a path of growth and learning, making stronger connections and improving our world, but not at the expense of missing the present. Each day offers us gifts. Each day we can be a gift to someone else. But not if we are stuck in a cycle of worry, doubt and fear; heavy burdens we were never meant to carry. Jesus’ yoke is easy and light, a place of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
When we approach life from a place of gratitude and joy, we begin to trust in a Power outside of ourselves. We become open and receptive to the idea that the Holy Spirit is our loving companion, leading us each step of the way. We move from doubt to trust. There is “no obstacle that true grit and Amazing Grace cannot overcome”. (Simple Abundance, 2019)
believing is seeing
If you’ve seen Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, you are familiar with the Mirror of Erised. It is a beautiful, floor mirror that at first glance seems to be a normal mirror. But Dumbledore explains to Harry that this mirror is not all that it seems.
“The happiest man on earth would look into it and see himself exactly as he is. It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts. However, this mirror will give us neither knowledge or truth. It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live”
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (1997), Chapter 12, The Mirror of Erised
How do you see yourself? My prayer for us is simply this: That we learn to see ourselves as God sees us – beautiful, radiant, beloved creations. Or as Macrina Wiederkehr said in her prayer, “O God, help us to believe the truth about ourselves, no matter how beautiful it is.” This is the path from scarcity to abundance: the mindset shift for authentic success.
